Vehicle Details
Hello fellow mustang fans. This is a beatiful 1971 Ford Mustang Convertible with low original miles being 43,964 verified. This car is near totally all original and is totally all matching #'s. This car has had only 2 owners since new. This car was built in the first week of may 1971 shipped to Bill Fry Ford in montoursville, pa. It was purchased on may 19, 1971 by a gentleman named Bill Colville that lived near there about 15 miles away. He owned the car and kept the car in a garage the whole time until he sold it in 1990 and it has been garage kept since as well. I know some people don't think of pennsylvania cars as being totally rust free and near mint but there are some out there just like this one that were very well maintained and cared for and always stored in a garage, never being used in winter and harly ever out in any rain like this one. So don't let this PA car fool you, this PA car is as clean and 100% rust free and correct as a western or southern car. The car never see rain and has never been out in the winter EVER since new.
Now to the options and a brief story about the car. The car is a convertible( Ford only made 6,121 in 1971) and it has a power black top, the car came with a 302-2V that put out 210 hp. and also came with a automatic trans. The car has a deluxe cluster with tach and full gauges which everything is original and does work. Also has the optional racing mirrors. The car came with a black interior and is all original and near mint condition. Now for a breif story about the cars paint. The car was originally a yellow car. The original owner did not like that color but could not get a red one. So he worked out a deal to have the dealer strip the car inside and out. Yes thats right the entire interior was removed as well as all the bumpers, grill, trim, emblems, etc. Even the top was taken off to make the color change so that everthing would be red as it would have been from the factory, even the plain rims and spare were repainted from yellow to red to match. As you can see the original spare is in the trunk and has the red paint on it. Then everything was put back together and had original stickers put back on like it was before it was painted. As stated on the owners warranty card the car was bought on 5/19/71 but was not registed to drive until 6/17/71. That was the time the car was being painted by the dealership. The original owner had told me that is what was done and gave me a picture he took of the car back in 1971, i have included that in the pictures it is the last picture. This was not all that uncommon, i have heard of some other mustangs as well as other cars with not so appealing paint color being repainted at the request of the buyer to be done by the dealer to sell them.
I have all of the dealership items that he had when he bought it. The sales broture, warranty identification card, build sheet, owner manuel and some other dealership stuff all but the window sticker he could not find that.
Now to the car. It is near all original. This car has ZERO rust, NONE whatsoever. The floors, trunk, quaters, fenders, firewall, doors, inner fenderwells, doorjams, etc are all original to the car. The entire interior is all original exept for a new dashpad. The original one had one small crack in it. The carpet, door panels, seats and yes even the top and boot are the original ones. All the switches and interior trim, molding, etc are in like new condition. The factory AM radio works and plays as it should and even the factory speaker sounds good. The The top is very nice and the boot has one small seam tear on one side but hell it's only the boot cover and it's over 36 years old. All the trim is beautiful with only one exception that being the hockeystick trim pieces that go around the top. The middle piece is stainless but the ends are chromed metal and even though it was garged kept they still have some pitting on them. No companies make these so they will have to be rechromed to be perfect again. But every other trim piece and emblems are like new. The bumpers are original and the chrome is perfect. The paint is very shiny and smooth and has no fading or cracks at all. There are a couple of very small chips from being drive over the last 36 years. Please look at the pictures i enlarged them so you can see how nice the paint is. The motor is all original down to every part of it, heads, intake, carb, air cleaner, wiring, valve covers, oil pan, everything except for the hoses and belts. The motor is very clean and turns right over with one start not like other classics where you have to start it and then it stalls out over and over. This motor starts right up and sound like the day it came off the lot. It had decent power for only being 210hp. The original transmission shifts very strong and smooth, goes right into every gear. The brakes are all drum but work very nice. All the interior lights, like the courtesy lights, seat belt light, parking brake light as well as the key buzzer, etc all work as they should as well as every gauge and all the outside light and markers. The power top goes up and down just like its new. The top being original has it's original glass rear window. All the weatherstripping is still entact and looks very nice. The car has all of the oroginal spare items in the trunk, jack, handle, tire and rim and even has the original bag the top boot was stored in. The car came with hup caps from the factory as you can see in the last picture of the car from 1971. In 1991 the car had a set of crager ss rims put on and they are just like the day they were put on. If you don't like these you could swap them out for a set of magnum 500's which were a option or get a set of original hupcaps and planin rims to put back on to be totally factory again.
This is and was always a solid babied adult owned with only 2 owners car that was always garage kept since new and looks and drives that way with only 43,964 true miles. There is a break down of all the miles per year put on her.
This is a fine example of a original survivor and looks, runs, and drives as one. If anyone wants to see the car in person , you are more than welcome to come and view it and hear it run. This car is beautiful and you won't be disappointed.
